Congratulations on Graduation

It’s that time of year when our Elko and Northern Nevada Seniors and their families celebrate the last days of high school and that rite of passage known as Graduation.  Lostra Brothers Towing & Wreck Recovery Services wants to congratulate the graduating class at Elko High School and we wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

It’s also a time of year when our exuberance can get the best of us and we can make careless decisions.  A few years ago, Jerry arrived at a crash site where a pick-up truck was upside down in a ditch.  A man was standing alone above the wrecked truck waiting for us to arrive.  The man explained that he had just bought his daughter this brand new truck for graduation.  As he fumed, he said, “Now look at it.  It’s wrecked.”

Jerry noticed the absence of an ambulance or emergency workers, so he asked the man, “Where is your daughter?”

The man said, “Oh, she’s at home and pretty upset.”

Jerry responded, “Well, then I’d have to say, this is a damn good day.”

The man looked at Jerry, and as the anger flushed from his face, he said, “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

Jerry towed the truck back to the family’s home, where the man’s less than thrilled wife met them in the driveway.  She was holding a wad of cash.  She explained that while she was happy her daughter was safe, she was nevertheless using her graduation money to pay for the tow.

We don’t want to be all doom and gloom on an exciting and important time in a young woman’s or man’s life.  But we’ve seen it all.  While this girl only ended up with an empty piggy bank, others have not been so lucky.  We want our Seniors to live long and happy lives.  So while you are celebrating your last days of school and your bright future, remember to be safe and to call your family, a friend, or take a taxi if you need a ride home. Tomorrow is waiting for you.

P.S. Jerry’s son will be donning his cap and gown this week in Elko’s drive through graduation.  Congratulations, Sam!  We’re proud of you and all the best on the road that lies ahead.
